Pylorus - Ileal Ligated Rat
Evaluate potential effects on intestinal hypersecretion caused by cholera-toxin or E. coli (heat stable enterotoxin) induced enteropooling in the rat. The test compound can be dosed by various routes. The rat is anesthetized briefly with ether and a ligation placed around the pylorus and ileo-cecal valve. Cholera enterotoxin, E. coli enterotoxin or castor oil are administered intraduodenally. The rats are sacrificed three hours later and the small intestine weighed. The diarrheogenic agent will increase the weight of the small intestine indicating an enteropooling of fluid. Compounds effective in severe dehydrating diarrhea will decrease the enteropooling of fluid.© 2005 - 2008 | About PSL | Webmaster
